Lechon Asado

It pig nation, and nothing shines better than Filipino Lechon Sado from Abe, an upscale restaurant in Alabang Town Center Philippines. This is a national staple dish, so we just had to try its upscale restaurant in Manila, Philippines. I heard of this before the trip, and it was on our must-try list. An entire pig skewered in the ground and then served for your noming. Crunchy skin is the best part! At first, I thought it was weird to eat the surface, but first, I bite, and I loved it. It’s the layers of deliciousness—mhhh layer of fatty goodness.

Lynchee Mango Duo $4

Get blasted away with a perfect smoothie Lynchee Mango Duo from Abe, an upscale Filipino restaurant in Alabang Town Center, Philippines. Always a fun drink at every place during our trip to Manila, Philippines. A massive glass of nomnom drink for just $4 (145 Pesos). It’s all about mango. One of my favorite, most delicious tropical flavor mix drinks. So fresh and refreshing, great drink on a hot day.

Turon with Nangka at Ube $2

I am trying out a popular Filipino street food dessert Turon with Nangka at Ube from Abe, an upscale restaurant in Alabang Town Center, Philippines. Bring on the banana crunchier. It’s kind of like eating banana spring roll. Tiny sliced fried banana with brown sugar rolled into a spring roll — Crunchy on the outside and soft goodness on the inside.

Maja Blanca $2

I am exploring some yummy rice-based Filipino pudding dessert Maja Balance from Abe, an upscale restaurant in Alabang Town Center, Philippines. White wobbly rice block! White ground rice cake cooked in sweet coconut crew for just $2 (90 Pesos). It’s an exciting dessert, a bit bland but very soft and light texture. Sweet young corn flakes on top added a nice crunchiness to it.

Sugpo Sa Aligue Ng Talangka $14

Make it saucy with a delicious Filipino seafood dish Sugpo Sa Aligue Ng Talangka from Abe restaurant in Alabang Town Center, Philippines. It’s all about the fatty saucy goodness! Giant shrimp smothered with crab fat, olive oil, and lemon sauce. It got to make sure to get lots of that sauce with every shrimp bite. It tastes so soft and lights that its texture alone made my mouth happy.

Frog Betute $7

Our first time diving into a foodie adventure with a unique Frog Betute Filipino dish from Abe in Alabang Town Center, Philippines. Oh no, it won’t turn into a prince anymore. Farm frogs stuffed with minced pork, garlic, and spices. Frog parts were very crunchy chewy with delicious soft stuffing. Not sure if I genuinely tasted the frog and not just the stuffing. This dish costs 250 pesos, which only ends up being $7.

Bamboo Rice $6

You haven’t had rice until you tried this unique Filipino take with Bamboo Rice from Abe, an upscale restaurant in Alabang Town Center, Manila suburb Philippines. Rice cooked inside a bamboo!!! Just getting some amazing nomnoms during our trip to Manila, Philippines. Not just served on bamboo, no, it was cooked inside the shell. How awesome is that? The fun doesn’t end. Waiters bring out big bamboo sticks and start hitting them in a song-like rhythm to separate bamboo and rice. Not just any regular rice, it’s mountain rice cooked with shrimps, wood ear mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. The flavor was unlike any rice I’ve tried before, and I think now every rice I order better be steamed inside a bamboo shell! Must-try dish. Even though this is more of an upscale restaurant, the dish costs only 250 pesos which end at $6.

Klassik Kare-Kare $14

Get ready for the flavor explosion uniquely with Filipino dishes Klassik Kare Kare from Abe in Alabang Town Center, a Manila suburb Philippines. Don’t chase your tail. One of my most favorite dishes during our trip to Manila, Philippines. It’s an Oxtail in rich peanut-based sauce with a little bit of rice. Meat so soft and tender, it just falls off the bone. The most amazing part about the dish is bagoong (shrimp paste). It’s a flavor with a bunch, solid sardine-like tastes. It might not be for everyone, but I loved it, and I could eat that paste all the time! Later on, I added some to a sandwich. This is a more upscale restaurant and costs 595 pesos which cost about $14.

Binukadka na Pla Pla $9

Let your taste buts fly away with a unique Filipino seafood dish Binukadka na Pla Pla from Abe in Alabang Town Center, Manila suburb Philippines. Pretty butterflies! Let’s get fancy food in Manila, Philippines. Yeap, this was described to us as a butterflyfish that will fly in your mouth. Oh dam, does it fly? One of the most nomnom fishes I’ve tried. Goes so well with Ball Ball relish. I could eat that relish by itself. Even though it’s more of a high-end restaurant and this cost 395 pesos, but it only ends up being $9.

Arobung Kamaru $6

There is nothing to be fussy about, and let’s enjoy some rice crickets for dinner with Filipino Arobung Kamaru from Ade in Alabang Town Center, Manila suburb Philippines. Jiminy crickets told me to do it! Our first adventure into bug-eating while on a trip to Asia. Say hello to a delicacy from the Pampanga provinces. Caught in the rice fields and then sautéed in tomatoes and onions and prepared to super crunchy goodness. A little bit spicy dish and like many Asian dishes goes excellent with rice. I guess we are now vegetarians! It sure is one of the weirdest and most out-there recipes we’ve tried so far. I loved this nomnom, and you must try it.

Paco Fern and Tomato Salad $4

Filipinos don’t just make meat and create a great Paco Fern and Tomato Salad from Ade in Alabang Town Center, a Manila suburb Philippines. We are eating the rainforest!!! Well, fern from the rainforest with tomato in a light salad dressing. It reminded me of seaweed salad. The eggs were a bit salty, so I got to make sure to get lots of fern in every bite to balance it out. This only cost 155 pesos which are just $4.
